2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Review...
The 2015 Corvette Z06 features a carbon-fiber hood and, for the first time ever, a removable carbon-fiber roof panel. The use of carbon fiber strips away weight, lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity and maintaining optimal weight distribution for precise handling.
The 2015 Corvette Z06 is powered by an LT4 supercharged 6.2L aluminum V8 engine delivering 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine incorporates a more efficient, more compact next-generation supercharger, as well as a dry-sump oil system, lightweight titanium intake valves and connecting rods for reduced reciprocating mass. And while advanced engine technologies enable supercar performance, Corvette engineers have managed to increase LT4 fuel efficiency by leveraging the same trio of advanced technologies introduced on the Corvette Stingray powertrain: Direct Injection, Active Fuel Management™ and Continuously Variable Valve Timing.
The 2015 Corvette Z06 is the only supercar that delivers 650 horsepower and offers the choice of a 7-speed manual or an all-new available track-certified 8-speed paddle-shift automatic. The standard 7-speed with Active Rev Matching enhances the driving experience by simulating heel-toe shifting perfection at the touch of a switch. The available 8-speed paddle-shift offers the smooth control of a true automatic but with quick, precise shifts and manual mode for track driving. The 8-speed automatic delivers performance on par with dual-clutch designs, but without sacrificing performance.
The turn of a dial changes everything. With the Driver Mode Selector, you can fine-tune your driving experience with five distinct, selectable driver modes: Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport and Track. Each mode electronically calibrates up to 12 performance variables to customize and optimize the Corvette Z06 supercar for any road.
Standard on Z06, eLSD makes the most of the torque split between the rear wheels. The system, which becomes more aggressive in Sport and Track modes, is designed to improve stability and responsiveness. eLSD also features a hydraulically actuated clutch that can infinitely vary clutch engagement and respond from open to full engagement in mere tenths of a second in order to improve steering feel, handling balance and traction.
Inside, the Corvette Z06 is distinguished from the Stingray with unique color schemes that emphasize the driver-focused cockpit, as well as a unique, flat-bottom steering wheel. Like the Stingray, the Z06 offers two seating choices: a GT seat for all-around support and comfort, and a Competition Sport seat with more aggressive side bolstering, which provides greater support on the track. The frame structure for both seats is made of magnesium, for greater strength and less weight than comparable steel frames. They’re also more rigid, contributing to the enhanced feeling of support during performance driving. And all models feature a fully wrapped interior, with every surface covered with premium, soft-touch materials, including available Napa leather, aluminum, carbon fiber and sueded microfiber.
